"10 Things I was Unprepared for when I came to South Africa" By: Alyson Seeling

• Having to switch on an outlet before being able to use it
• Driving on the “wrong” side of the road (even when you know it’s impossible to prepare for)
• Turning on the light before walking into a room because the switches are outside the doors
• The use of the phrase TIA (This is Africa.)
• The permanent night light that is the hall light outside of my room shining brightly through the window every night
• Being woken up by a human rooster at 5 AM
• Hotel construction at all hours of the day even when we go to sleep at 1:30AM
• Trying to convert rands to dollars in your head (you should just use the calculator on your super ghetto Nokia phone. Don’t guess... the locals make fun of you)
• Mentally calculating time zones from home to South Africa and attempting not to call anyone at home at 4AM

• The beautiful sights all over the city

Imagine. Inspire. Impact.
