"The Climb up Table" By: Jack Austin

Since entering the exciting country of South Africa, everyone in Global Lead has been going nonstop, whether its bungee jumping off Bloukrans Bridge, the highest commercial bungee jump in the world, or spending the week in the township creating lasting relationships with many of the children. Today, our focus was on the “power of wow,” and to truly experience this, our wonderful directors decided to get us up bright and early this morning at six to hike up Table Mountain. After finally gathering everyone together on the buses and driving over to the right trail (which took a few tries), we began our hike right at the crack of dawn. After a few hundred feet I could already feel the fatigue settling in. I pushed through, however, and after many stops and turning around for incredible views, I finally prevailed over the seemingly never-ending hike and reached the top. Now I was curious to see why these crazy directors woke us up so early for this exhausting hike at sunrise, so I staggered to the side of the mountain and looked over the edge. The only word that came to mind was “wow.” The view over Cape Town was breathtaking and you could see for miles. Now I understood why we attempted this treacherous hike.
